Teachers we need you ♛♚♛♚♛♚
My latest article for Rise Education magazine is aimed at primary and secondary teachers who are curious about starting a chess club. I explore six myths in the hope that I can persuade educators to take a chance with this ancient and beautiful strategy game.
It’s my 5th chess article for the wonderful Rise Education Magazine, by Netsupport.
You can read it here along with four others:

A Summertime club
For the UK, the summer term is a great time to try a chess club. Post exams, teachers often feel a little lighter with their workload, (I said a little 😉).
There’s time in the term for making memories before students move on. Teachers here also feel a little happier with the summer sunshine, knowing holidays are approaching. It’s a great time to offer something more to the school community.
A club for the new academic year
Or maybe we’re thinking about the new academic year. What did we do well this year, what could we do better? How can we begin the year connecting with new students and building relationships?
Building Community
There are many wonderful gifts chess will bring to your school but at the top is a sense of community. The chess community. Read my article to find out how you can start a chess club in your school. I’m ‘debunking’, ‘demystifying’ and breaking down barriers.
I promise they’ll be no regrets. ♟️
If you’re a teacher who has made the first step in your chess club journey and you’d like to share your story, do get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. ❤️
