Welcome to the LogiqBoard blog

Welcome to the first LogiqBoard blog where I’ll be sharing a little about myself, how I connected with the team and how even on holiday, I couldn’t escape the magic of LogiqBoard.

A little about me.

My name is Hari Neocleous and I’m a primary maths and chess teacher. I’ve been teaching in London primary schools for over 20 years and I’m passionate about gamebased learning. Teaching maths, chess and strategy games are all part of my working week. I’ll be sharing some of my work with you in the blog and the many wonderful ways you can use LogiqBoard at home or in the classroom.

So when did LogiqBoard come into the picture?

I first came across LogiqBoard on a strategy games course. The wonderful Rita Atkins (cocreator of LogiqBoard) was one of the course leaders. We spent a day online exploring games and puzzles that can be played on an 8×8 board. I was blown away with how children could be challenged in the classroom and the problem solving skills that could be developed. Rita and I ended up in a breakout room together, playing a game called Halma. (Yes I was nervous and no, I don’t remember who won!!) The rest is history and I now count Rita as a dear friend from the chess world.

Rita and Marton have created this wonderful online 8×8 board. With a bank of strategy games, chess mini games and logic puzzles it has so much to offer. And for the educators out there, it’s a superb teaching and learning platform. LogiqBoard is more than just a chessboard. Check out the blog every two weeks and follow us on social media for fun games, teaching tips and new ideas!

Chess and the social connection…

Before I wrap up my first blog I want to tell you about my Summer in Greece. After three weeks by the beautiful sea, my family and I headed to the mountains to slow down and experience a week of village life. The absolute highlight was teaching my sweet seven year old niece how to play chess. Each day we learnt about a new chess piece and played the chess mini-games on LogiqBoard. She grasped the game with such passion. Never underestimate a young child’s observation skills or ability to see ahead! A few years ago she was too shy to tell me her name and here we were playing chess.

Her gorgeous older brother knew the basics of chess so each day they’d play together with my daughter. The days were filled with beautiful moments like this. We’d be sipping coffee and we’d turn around to see them playing chess on their electronic tablet or little chessboard. The chessboard brought them together and it warmed my heart! I had given her the gift of chess.

I’m hoping that as we settle well into the new school year we’ll continue to be part of their games journey. And I couldn’t think of a better way to do this than LogiqBoard. A fun, colourful and easy to use online platform. We’ll connect across the board and across borders.

Thanks for joining me 😊
